This is the upper cyclone for the Eureka 4484 upright, part 607053 - the moulded chamber above the dirt cup where incoming air is spun so debris drops out before it reaches the filter.
Cyclone bodies crack around their sealing faces and mounting tabs, usually after the cup has been dropped or wrestled off one too many times. A cracked or badly scored cyclone stops sealing, and the machine starts pushing fine dust straight through to the filter: suction falls away, the filter loads in days rather than months, and the cup no longer fills the way it should.
A sound upper cyclone puts the separation stage back in one piece. Check the sealing edge sits evenly all the way round when you fit it, since a cyclone that is half a turn out of position leaks just as badly as a cracked one.
