The tool end is the fitting at the far end of a Rainbow E series hose, the piece your wands and attachments push into. Part R12607 replaces it on Rexair E series canisters.
Everything the machine pulls has to pass through this joint, so wear here is felt everywhere else. A split in the collar or a fitting that has gone loose lets air in ahead of the tool, and the symptom is a confusing one: suction seems fine at the canister but weak at whatever you are actually using, sometimes with a faint whistle at the connection. Attachments may also start dropping off mid-job.
Replacing the tool end costs a fraction of a new hose and restores a tight push-fit for wands and tools. It is worth ruling out before you write the hose off entirely.
