The genuine Sanitaire outer cloth bag in red, part 1620879, built to the newer style that takes ST-type paper bags. A double zipper runs the length of it so you can get at the inner bag without wrestling the cloth off the machine, and two screws fasten it in position.
The outer cloth is a working filter, not just a cover. Over years of commercial service the weave loads with fine dust and stops breathing, which strangles airflow; or the fabric tears at a seam and a zipper gives up, at which point dust escapes into the room the machine is meant to be cleaning.
It fits the Sanitaire SC883, SC888M, SC888N, SC895, SC678A, SC688A and EC883A. Fit ST-type paper bags inside it, and check the zippers and seams at each bag change so a small tear does not become a full failure.
