A central vacuum power unit is loud, and some of that noise travels back up the pipe to every inlet in the house. The sound-off muffler, part 030185, fits into the pipework near the unit and absorbs a good share of it before it reaches the living space. It is 15 inches long and arrives with the mounting hardware and fittings needed to put it in.
It is a common retrofit in garages and basements where the power unit shares a wall with a bedroom or an office, and equally common on systems where the exhaust was never vented outside.
The muffler works with a wide range of built-in vacuum brands, Beam, Electrolux, Power Star, DCC, Titan and Honeywell among them, covering units such as the Beam SC325D, SC395, 600SAN01A, 650SBN01A, 650SCN50A and 650SCN51A, the Electrolux PU3450, PU3650 and PU3900 QuietClean, and the Honeywell H402, H502, H702, H802A and H902.
