This is the power nozzle lockout switch for ProTeam ProForce uprights, part 104279. Its job is to shut the brush roll off, keeping the agitator from spinning when the machine is parked upright or the handle is in the wrong position.
When the switch fails it usually fails safe: the brush roll stops turning altogether and the machine looks for all the world like it has thrown a belt, even though the belt is fine and the motor sounds normal. Less often it sticks the other way and the brush keeps running when it should not, which will burn a mark into carpet in seconds if the vacuum is left standing.
Either behavior is worth fixing straight away. Disconnect the machine from power before working on it. It fits the ProTeam ProForce 1200XP and 1500XP, ProForce 1500 and ProForce 1500 HEPA.
