The fan housing cover closes off the fan chamber on Oreck XL21 uprights, and part 09-77230-51 replaces it. It keeps the airflow path sealed between the fan and the rest of the machine, which is why a cracked or warped cover costs suction even though the cover does nothing mechanical.
Damage here usually follows a fan failure, where a blade lets go and takes a piece of the cover with it, or simply age as the plastic goes brittle around the fixings. Air drawn in through a split is air that never came up the nozzle, so the machine can sound perfectly healthy and still clean poorly.
It fits the XL21 line and its U7000-series relatives, including the U7000ECB, U7000ECP, U7000ECR, U7010ECS, U7020ECBS, U7030ECBS, U7050ECB, U7060ECS, U7070ECS, U7100ECB, XL21600ECB, XL21700ECB, XL21750ECB, XL21780EYB, XL7605EYB and XL7705ECB.
