Intake guard assembly for the Kirby Generation 6, part 224299, complete with the arm that operates the safety and high-speed switch. It is the piece fitted over the fan intake when the machine is used in blower mode - inflating an air bed, clearing a garage floor - and it keeps fingers clear of the fan while the motor is running.
Because the switch arm is part of the assembly, a broken guard is more than a missing screen. Snap the arm and the machine loses the interlock and speed control it actuates, so the fault often shows up as a machine that will not run properly in blower mode rather than as anything you can see.
It is listed for the Generation 5 and 6, the Ultimate G, the Diamond Edition and the Sentria. Check the switch arm moves freely once the assembly is fitted.
