This is the filter retainer for Hoover WindTunnel uprights, part 36426034 - the frame that holds the filter in its housing, not the filter itself. The two are easy to confuse when ordering, so check which one you actually need.
The retainer's job is to hold the filter flat and fully seated against its opening. When it cracks, or its tabs break off, the filter shifts or sits proud and air takes the easier route around the edge instead of through the media. Dust then reaches the motor and the fine stuff blows back out of the exhaust, all while the filter itself looks perfectly clean.
It covers a wide run of WindTunnel machines including the C1703900, C1705900 and CH50010, the U5140900, U5142900, U5145900 and U5146900, the U53019RM, the U5330900, U5393900, U5394900 and U5395900, and the U5402900, U5432900, U5444900 and U5456900.
