This is the on/off switch fitted across a long run of Hoover machines, sold under part number 28218061. It is the push-button switch that carries power to the motor, mounted in the body panel where your thumb naturally finds it.
Switches wear out mechanically long before anything else in the machine does. You press it and nothing happens, or the vacuum runs until you nudge the handle and then dies. That intermittent behaviour is the switch contacts, not the motor, and replacing it is far cheaper than chasing the fault deeper into the machine.
It fits the Hoover C3820 along with the F5806, F5810 and F5821, a broad span of the F58xx and F59xx carpet cleaners including the F5868, F5871, F5883 and F5915 series, and the FH50015 through FH50042 models. Unplug the machine before you open the housing.
