This cloth bag and gasket assembly is the outer bag for the Royal RY4000 and RY4001 backpacks and the Hoover C2401 series, part 2KE2105000. The gasket is the important half: it seals the bag against the machine so dirty air cannot escape at the collar.
Cloth bags fail slowly rather than suddenly. Seams open, the fabric goes porous after years of fine dust, and the gasket hardens until it no longer compresses against the housing. You see it as dust escaping around the bag mouth and as suction that never quite comes back after a bag change.
The opening measures roughly nine inches across the top. It fits the Royal RY4000 and RY4001 and the Hoover C2401 and C2401010. Empty and shake it out regularly, since a packed bag chokes airflow and makes the motor work hard for nothing.
