The ESSENTIAL G4/G5 parts drawing carries the grommet at item 3, sitting right among the components that make up the handle and the cord entry: the handle with cable at item 1, the power supply cord at item 4, the switch at item 5 and the cable clamp at item 8. That grouping tells you exactly where these liners live and why they see so much movement in service.

Each one occupies the hole in the moulding that a cable passes through, standing between the jacket and a hard plastic rim. Rubber that has stiffened with age gives up long before it actually falls out of the panel. It loses the interference fit keeping it in place, the cable begins to shift against a bare edge, and the sheath wears from the outside in through nothing more dramatic than the everyday flexing that happens at the handle.

Renewing the whole set while a machine is open takes barely longer than doing one and saves returning to each of the others as it hardens in turn. Unplug at the wall before starting. Treat any cable showing a flattened or shiny band as a separate matter in its own right, since a grommet cannot repair damage that has already been done to a jacket.
