Bissell DeepClean Essential Cogged Brush Belt - 8852 Series

The cogged brush belt from the Bissell DeepClean Essential 8852 series, part 1601542. Unlike a flat belt it drives on teeth, so the brush roll holds its speed instead of slipping when wet carpet loads it up.

Cogged belts do not usually stretch, they strip. A tooth or two shears off and from then on the brush roll stutters, skips under load, or stops entirely while the motor sounds completely normal. If the machine is wetting the carpet properly but leaving the dirt in it, this is the first thing to check.

Look at the old belt once the base is off. Missing teeth, cracks at the tooth roots, or a glazed shine across the drive face all mean it was overdue. The solution pump on these machines runs on a separate flat belt, so it is worth checking that one while everything is open.
