A washable foam dirt cup filter for the Bissell PowerLifter, part 1604127. It sits inside the dirt cup on the pre-motor side and catches the fine dust the cup itself cannot hold on to.
Foam filters do not so much fail as fill. Suction fades a little at a time, and because the change is gradual most people put it down to the machine simply getting old. Rinse it in warm water and let it dry all the way through before it goes back, since a damp filter smells within a day and chokes airflow worse than dust does.
That brings it most of the way back, but not forever: foam eventually goes brittle or loses its spring, and at that point it needs replacing rather than washing. This one fits the Bissell PowerLifter and PowerLifter Pet 1307, 1309 and 1309W.
