Hood for the Sanitaire SC886, part 540972. The hood is the outer shell over the motor and fan housing on these commercial uprights: it keeps the internals covered, holds components in alignment, and takes the knocks that come with pushing a machine around furniture all day.
Hoods crack at the mounting bosses and split along the edges after enough impacts. Once the shell is loose or a section is missing, dust and debris reach the motor and wiring, and parts that relied on the hood to hold them square start to shift and rattle.
It fits the Eureka and Sanitaire SC877D, SC877E, SC886F, SC886G, SC887D, SC887E, SC888G, SC888M and SC888N. Fasten every mounting point when fitting so the shell sits flush rather than resting on two screws.
