This is the clean water tank for the Bissell 2910, part number 1626412, and it also fits the 2987. It is the reservoir that holds water and cleaning solution and meters it down to the floor as you work.
Tanks crack. A hairline split along a moulding seam, a warped lip that no longer seals against the machine, or a perished gasket will let solution weep out and starve the spray at the same time. The classic symptom is a wet patch where the machine was parked, together with weak or uneven spray when you pull the trigger.
Rinse a new tank after every use so residue never builds up in the outlet, and press it home until it locks before running the machine. A tank sitting proud of its cradle leaks even when the tank itself is perfectly sound.
