Between the bottom plate and the nozzle housing on these Titan and Carpet Pro uprights runs a soft felt strip, part B283-1500. Its job is to close the last gap in the suction chamber so air is pulled through the brush roll opening rather than in from the sides. It fits the Titan T3200, Carpet Pro CPU250 and CPU350, Fuller Brush FB-JFM and FBEZM, and the Simplicity and Riccar S20EZM and S20PET.
Felt compresses, mats down with fine dust and eventually tears where the plate is unclipped for belt changes. A flattened seal is a quiet fault: nothing rattles, nothing sounds wrong, and carpet just stops coming up as clean as it used to.
Replace the felt whenever the bottom plate is off. It costs little and it is what makes the plate seal.
