This brush roll, part 561060171, fits the Kenmore Intuition bagged uprights, models BU4022 and BU4023, and the Kenmore 3421. The roller turns under the nozzle and rakes the carpet pile so the airflow has loose dirt to carry away rather than dirt still gripped by the fibres.
The wear is gradual enough to be easy to miss. Bristles shorten and lose their stiffness, the end caps develop play, and hair binds around the shaft until the roller starts dragging on the belt. What you notice is carpet that no longer looks freshly done after a pass, even with a new bag and a clean filter.
Clear the tangled hair off the shaft when you fit the new roller, and check it spins freely by hand before closing the base.
