The small black pre-motor filter from Bissell's PowerForce uprights, part 2035576. It sits between the dust path and the motor intake, and it is the last defence the motor has against fine dust.
Pre-motor filters block gradually and quietly. Long before it looks dirty, the pad has enough grey packed into it to restrict airflow, and that shows up as a machine which has lost its edge and a motor running hotter and louder than it used to. Left long enough, restricted cooling airflow is what eventually kills the motor, which makes this one of the cheapest pieces of preventative maintenance on the whole vacuum.
It fits the PowerForce Bagged 1398 and 1398R, the 71Y7, 71Y71, 71Y72, 71Y73, 71Y7R, 71Y7V, 71Y7W and 71Y7Y, plus the 1739, 3525, 3530, 3537, 46E5 and the BGU1451T.
