This is the rotating fan for Ametek Lamb 5.7 inch vacuum motors, part 31120-20, measuring 4 7/8 inches across. It is the impeller that does the actual work of moving air through the motor, turning motor revolutions into suction at the nozzle.
Fans fail when something hard gets past the filtration and reaches the fan chamber. A chipped or cracked impeller goes out of balance immediately, and you hear it as a change in the motor's note, a vibration through the housing, or a rattle as it spins down. Suction drops at the same time, because a damaged fan cannot move the air the motor is spinning it fast enough to move.
